Built for the built-in XDR display

Tested beta hardware

14-inch M2 Pro MacBook Pro with a built-in mini-LED XDR display, on macOS 27.0.1.

Other XDR MacBooks

Other sizes and OLED models still need physical testing. A detected profile is not a verified brightness result.

Built-in display only

Lumi does not control external displays, including Studio Display or Pro Display XDR.

The beta is for Apple silicon MacBook Pro XDR panels. MacBook Air and Intel MacBooks are not supported. macOS 26 compatibility remains unverified.

Extra brightness can make the built-in display easier to read outdoors. Available output still depends on the panel, content, power and temperature.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free preview?
Yes. The notarized beta includes free Half-Screen Mode. It enhances the left half, with an approximate comparison on the right. This is not a calibrated SDR or nit comparison. Unzip the download, move Lumi to Applications, then open it.
What brightness can I expect?

Lumi shows estimated targets, not a sensor reading. macOS and the display still manage available output.

Apple rates the tested M2 Pro display at 500 nits SDR, 1,000 nits sustained full-screen HDR and 1,600 nits peak HDR. These are display ratings, not guaranteed desktop output from Lumi. Apple’s 14-inch specifications.

Physical OLED testing is still outstanding. Lumi does not promise measured 2,000-nit output or sustained 2,000-nit full-screen brightness.

Which MacBooks and displays does Lumi support?

The beta has been tested on one 14-inch M2 Pro MacBook Pro. Other built-in XDR models, including OLED, remain unverified.

Lumi controls the built-in panel only. External displays, MacBook Air and Intel MacBooks are not supported.

How do the brightness steps work?
Lumi shows estimated nits. The tested mini-LED profile tops out at a 1,600-nit target; an unverified OLED profile may show 2,000. Use your normal brightness keys, with Shift–Option for finer macOS steps. Relative changes stop once at 500 and 1,000 nits when within range, then continue on the next step.
Does Lumi use much CPU?
Lumi is a native menu bar app. Responsive controls have been checked on the M2 Pro test Mac; broader battery and long-session testing is still needed.
Does a license work offline?
Activation needs an internet connection. After activation, Lumi works offline for up to 30 days and renews when you’re online. Connect again before that period ends to keep full-display access. There’s no subscription.
When can I buy Lumi?
The planned prices are shown above. Live purchases will open after the licensed app, delivery and checkout have been validated. A test checkout is not a live purchase.
