HDR vs SDR Brightness
Ordinary desktop brightness and HDR highlights use different parts of a display’s range.
SDR
Standard dynamic range describes ordinary content such as windows and text. The tested M2 Pro panel is rated at 500 nits SDR.
HDR and EDR
Extended dynamic range provides headroom for brighter HDR content. Apple rates the M2 Pro panel at 1,000 nits sustained full-screen HDR and 1,600 nits peak HDR.
Lumi’s estimate
Lumi requests brightness within an extended range, while macOS manages available output. Its number is an estimated target. The HDR comparison can show a browser difference, but cannot measure nits or certify Lumi compatibility.
